The Glittering Mountain

Mt. Kilimanjaro

World’s Tallest Free-standing mountain at 5,895 meters (19,340 ft) Above Sea Level

There are few peaks in the world that measure up to the majesty and splendor of Kilimanjaro. It is the most revered and recognized in terms of height in Africa. The ‘Kili’ as is commonly known is considered one of the #7summits of the world.

Mount Kilimanjaro, with its three volcanic cones, Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira, is a dormant volcanic mountain in Tanzania – East Africa. It is the highest mountain in Africa and the highest free-standing mountain in the world at 5,895 metres. The term ‘Kilima-Njaro’ has generally been understood to mean the Mountain (Kilima) of Greatness (Njaro). This is probably as good a derivation as any other.

Mountain of Eden

Mt. Kenya

Africa’s Second and Kenya’s Tallest mountain at 5,199 meters (17,057 ft) Above Sea Level

Mount Kenya is a breathtaking and spectacular mountain that lies as the predominate landmark of the central part of Kenya and has inspired peoples life in many ways. It is perhaps unsurprisingly due to the community who reside on its lower slopes that believed and still believes that this was their god’s abode. The mountain’s original name was “Kirinyaga” from a Kikuyu word meaning “With Ostrich”.

Mountain of Fury

Mt. Meru

Tanzania’s Second Highest mountain at 4,565 meters (14,947 ft) Above Sea Level

A mere to 70 kilometres from Kilimanjaro’s Uhuru peak, it is only as high as most mountains in the alps of western Europe. Its most remarkable feature is its steeper gradient than the gentle-shaped Kilimanjaro.

Mount Meru has grown its reputation among climbers as a warm-up summit for those preparing to conquer the Kilimanjaro. This mountain is a good test for acclimatization for climbers. However, do not underestimate ‘the mountain of fury’ as it offers its own thrills and challenges in its own right.

Mountains of the moon

Mt. Ruwenzori

Uganda’s Highest peak at 5,109 metres (16,762 ft)

This geological wonder occurs on a mountain range that spans Western Uganda and Eastern Congo (DR) Virunga National Park. It is home to arguably the largest and most breathtaking set of Ice glaciers on the equator. This mountain range offers amazing experience in wildlife, vegetation and wonderful scenery.

The beautiful glaciers of this mountain range form one of the many sources of the River Nile.
